Lesson #155 - Everyone Needs The Harvester

Have I mentioned that Halloween is my most favorite holiday?!

WELL IT IS!!

This year the yard is going to be a fabulous array of horror and animatronic wonderfulness...including this guy on our door step!!

I can't wait to start putting everything up!! Usually I start on October 1st, but due to the high $$ amount of the entire set-up (around $1k in total) I am going to put it off until the last minute! Don't fret my lovelies...I will post pictures ASAP!

Lesson #154 - Fiberglass Is A "B" To Cut Through

My Halloween projects are in full swing...horray!! The other day I was able to find - and purchase - some new tombstones for the yard. While this might not sound exciting for most of you...I promise you, purchasing five realistic looking tombstones for the rock-bottom price of $10//each is a treat for me! The only issue with said decor is its weight.

The weather around my favorite holiday tends to be crappy...booo...so I had to find a way to weigh these things down without spending a ton of money. So, off to the local hardware store to find a cheap solution to my tombstone issue. I ended up purchasing a bag of sand and a 10 lb bag of concrete. This is how the project turned out:

My new toys about to get a makeover!

My dad used a hole saw to cut through the fiberglass (and it ate up quite a few of the blades)

The new hole

Mixing the concrete (the kind without rocks)

Adding a little more (dirty) water to the mix

Filling it with concrete

The one step I couldn't get a picture of was filling the tombstones with sand - for weight. Had they been filled to the top with concrete, they would have weighed a TON...so we decided to fill them 3/4 of the way with sand to add weight, but not make them so heavy that I couldn't carry them.

I am so proud of the finished products...no sneak peaks...pictures will be posted closer to Halloween!

{Wordless Wednesday - Newest Acquisition}

October...it is finally October!! In addition to the awesome Fall weather comes my most favorite holiday - Halloween (speaking of Halloween, there is still time to get your name on the gift swap list here)! This year I have a whole plan laid out for my decorations...and it is going to be glorious!! Until the big reveal, I will leave you with a few pictures of my most recent acquisitions for the yard:

You might think this fence is for my most prized vegetable garden...

 ...but you'd be wrong!!

Believe you, me...the after shots are quite impressive (but you'll have to wait for those)

Lesson #141 - Happiness Is A Package On My Doorstep

If you have followed me for any length of time, you know that I am a HUGE fan of Halloween...I mean HUGE people!! Nothing makes me more happy than decorating the casa for Halloween, picking out themed costumes for the entire family and dragging indulging everyone in a trip around the neighborhood to acquire fabulous bits of chocolate covered happiness.

Another thing I am a fan of - getting things, mostly packages, in the mail as long as it isn't a bill or collection notice. SO, I have decided to put them both together. This event is NOT a giveaway...rather, a gift swap!

This is how it will work:

1) Put your information into the SWEET linky below...see...right there...at the bottom of the post. Sign-ups will take place from today, September 16, 2011, through 11:59 pm est October 10, 2011. That is three weeks to get as many people to participate as possible...should be easy, right?! I sure hope so!!

2) On October 11, I will take all of the information and make a spread sheet of names, blogs and email addresses. Once that list is complete, I am going to pair everyone up as best I can so that each person has a gift buddy.

3) On October 12, I will send out the list of buddies to everyone. Once received, I ask that you make contact with your buddy - via a blog post or an email - and find out as much as you can about each other. The point of this part is to come up with a list of possible gifts to get each other. To be fair - please limit your gift box to $30 (not including shipping).

4) Mail your gift swap package no later than October 20, to leave ample time for your buddy to receive the goodies you send!

5) Create a blog post with pictures, descriptions and any other information you'd like to write. This post should go live on October 31st to celebrate Halloween - and all your cool things!! I will have another linky posted here on the 31st for everyone to come and share!

Feel free to Tweet, post a Facebook status or write a blog post about this swap...and if you are so compelled, you could also yell it from your roof! There is a SWEET little button to grab too...over there to the right -----> This swap is limited to the US and Canada.
