Lesson #145 - My Mom Is A Sucker

...and by sucker, I mean the fruitiest most colorful kind of sucker there is out in candy stores! Oh, and full of sugary goodness...not the Splenda kind, either!

The reason I say this is because ever since Lulu was born, my mom has been wrapped around her little finger - and it is a little finger alright! Lulu could cry or whine as a baby and my mom would jump right up (while I would let her sit there for a minute) and cater to her every need or desire. My mom is one of Lulu's loyal subjects...and will buy her almost everything.

For her first birthday, my parents threatened to buy her a pony - that would be kept at their house, of course. Then, for her second birthday, my parents paid for a face-painter to come in for 3 hours to paint a myriad of squirming children - and me! I'm almost scared to see what will happen at her third birthday party!!

So, off to Target we went - my mom, Lulu, Bubba and me - to pick up a few things. Lulu took my mom's arm and pulled her right to the toy aisle...its like kids have a toy radar built into their brains or something. I went off with Bubba to find the provisions we needed while the ladies played with dolls and plastic shopping carts.

I come back to find Lulu pushing around a plastic cart full of fake food. As I bend over to take the cart away, she starts to yell...loudly...similar to one being torn apart limb from limb - or at least what I would imagine it would sound like. My mom decided to buy her the cart just to keep her quiet...awesome! Now she is pushing that cart around the house everywhere.

A $24 shopping cart is contributing to my little Lulu being a "terrible two"...thanks mom!!

Grandparents are SUPPOSED to do things like this. But I swear to you that I am never like that with my grandson. Honestly - I'm not. I wouldn't do that at all!

(ok so- maybe just a little - but it's not my fault. We're supposed to do these things)

This is why I don't go shopping with my parents or in-laws with the kids in tow. If I say no but they buy it, it undermines parental authority, so I just avoid it altogether. I mean, it's one thing to buy random toys here and there, but not when it goes against the parent.

Obviously this is my opinion, but I had it out with my MIL over this same kind of thing.

As odd as this may sound, I wish my kids' grandparents (on both sides) would be a little more indulgent. For Cole and Bella's upcoming birthday, my mom handed me a check for $25 a couple days ago and goes, "Can you pick something up for them at Target next time you go and just say it's from us?"

Ahhh...grandparents. I swear Liam knows all he has to do is mention something he wants and he knows next time he sees one of his grandmas they will have it for him

My kids looooved their shopping cart. It was the hit of playgroups too. Although I don't agree with the way she got it! LOL But, what's a grandma to do. I guess that's what grandparents are for!

I love this !!!! My mom has threatened to buy my 3 year old a pony from his first bday, and she always says to my hubs that he "better be ready because once that pony comes, gunner will be in love and his dad cant dare take it away"....ok mom, so you give it to him and look like the hero and then WE have to take care of that horse every single freakin day??

dont think so!

So cute. Grandparents love to spoil them don't they? Mine own 3 year old has her grandpa wrapped around her finger. He has a hard time saying no to anything. She brings home crazy things sometimes, just because she happened to want it at the store!

I am stopping by tonight from the Say Hi Sunday blog hop. It is nice to "meet" you. I like your blog background. That green is FUN.

Enjoy your week,

A pony? The grandma's in my family would be in big trouble for that one!

My husband's mom is just like your mom. When she and my daughter spend time together, I never know how many toys and items she will come home with!

My Mom used to hold our kids non stop. They expected us to rock them to sleep because Grandma did. Then weaning from the bottle was interesting. I was trying to wean, and they kept saying, "Oh he still needs it." I finally got sort of blunt with them.

Spoiling isn't too bad now. My parents kind of got giving lots of toys out on my older sister's kids. My niece and nephew got all kinds of thing. American Girl dolls and accessories and Thomas the Tank Engine up the wazoo.

I think it's a grandparents 'job' to spoil the grandkids rotten - but between you and me, I'm glad my parents are 3000 miles away just so the kidlets don't get used to the spoiling. Wait, I tend to do that too much all on my own. Oops. ;)

One of Princess Naggers favorite toys was one of those shopping carts - even though she's too big for it now, she'll still play with it every so often. :)
