Lesson #30 - Weathermen Are Only Correct SOME Of The Time...This Is One Of Them

Snow is fun...well, it CAN be fun. Does anyone else question how much (or how little) the public should really be trusting the weather folks?? I mean, it is great that they have the ability to look at the WeatherDoppler5001...but it seems to me that even if they had someone from the future to tell them what the weather forecast is - they would still flip a coin, cross their fingers and pray for the best.

At first they were calling for 6-10 inches of the white stuff...then, about 30 minutes later, they were forecasting 12-18 inches. I can't even remember the last time I saw 18 inches of snow - if ever for that matter. By the end of the day on Friday, the highest prediction was at 24 inches...oh great!!

I didn't believe we could ever get 24 inches of snow so I wasn't so concerned...I mean, how could Mother Nature RUIN the event that had been planned for MONTHS - okay, only one month?!?!?! There was no way that the impending "snowpocalypse" was going to prevent Holiday-Fling-A-Ding 2009...I hadn't my best girlfriends for far too long...no snow...not this weekend!

Alas, this is what the hubs and I woke up to on Saturday morning...white stuff had come down and was up to 12 inches:

By Saturday evening, we had gotten up to 18 inches and it didn't look like it was going to stop any time soon. Needless to say, Holiday-Fling-A-Ding 2009 has been postponed indefinitely. This was the only weekend that all of us had free so who knows when we'll be able to get together now. Probably not until after the New Year...BOOO!!!

On Saturday evening, the hubs thought he would dig out...but he didn't get quite that far - seen here:

He wasn't sad because of the snow...but he was more depressed because he wanted so badly to grill steaks for dinner. I told him that the wind was really bad and that it probably wouldn't be such a great idea. Not only that, but trying to keep the grill at an adequate temperature would be impossible...he still tried:

It didn't work though...we ended up eating broiled steaky goodness - at least I did. Hubs had fajitas...both yummy!

How did you spend your snow day(s)?!?!

Typically..I'm not a big fan of winter or cold weather or snow for that matter. The ONLY day I'm ok with it is Christmas Eve/Christmas.
HOWEVER - occasionally I do crave I good snow.....
WE GOT NOTHING.....

Roads were salted... groceries packed with people planning for the blizzard....
we got a DUSTING ;-)

Your PICS are way cool :)

We didn't get any here, but my Hubs was stuck in it, trying to get home. What normally takes 8 hours, took him 31 hours!!!!

I'm sorry to hear that your get-together with your friends was canceled but at least you're getting a white Christmas, right?

Saddies! I would not be a happy lady if I had to miss a girls party either. Boo!

That is just like my husband too, to insist on doing something ridiculous even though all logic says NO.

I am so jealous! Seriously, I am really jealous over here in the land of heat and no rain.
However it is probably a good thing we live here right now because we don't even use a the heater. We layer our clothes at night and are just fine.
ugh- I want snow.

I am jealous of the snow too - we want a ton by new year so we can go snowmobiling.

Yeah I saw that a lot of people got hit. I think we get some this week. Not a lot though. On snow days I like to play in it if I can or just stay inside read, watch a movie, sing and dance and maybe do some crafts..

I like the snow when it is falling and I am inside. But, I just had to drive my son to school and the roads suck, so that's when I hate snow!

Have a wonderful holiday girl!

I can't imagine that much snow! Is it going to melt anytime soon?!!?

In a way I'm kind of jealous! We haven't had any snow yet! Can't believe it! Totally not normal for KC/MO.

As if I needed further proof that weather persons are full of ____, they have predicted snow for Atlanta Christmas Day. Then they threw out the 10 day forecast, which covers Christmas Day, and said low of 43. Unless the laws of nature, chemistry, physics, and a whole host of other sciences changed recently, I don't think 43 will guarantee snow. It might be rainy and cold as ____ but not snowing. I hope I'm wrong. I miss the snow.

okay, giggle, okay, giggle, I am trying but I cannot keep a straight face. Is that a spade your husband tried to shovel with. HA HA HA HA HA HA HA...no wonder he couldn't shovel out. You need to come visit Massachusetts and get yourself to home depot for a good SNOW shovel. Mother nature is going to be mean to you again this year. No hurricanes, big blizzards.

I always just snuggle in my blankets with the girls and surf the web!

Just came across your blog...it's great to find other working mamas. We had snow in Northern Illinois last week but not quite as much as you. Personally I like how it looks but I'm not a big fan at all.

I'd say you got snow!

I never believe those weather forecasts. I just thought they used a dart board for the predictions. Come to find out meteorolgy is a real science.

Per chance were you dreaming of a white Christmas?

Our big storm is coming, during Christmas - what horrible timing Miss Mother Nature.

Augh.

Holy COW! That's...that an AWFULLY lot of snow.

Missouri can be pretty bad, but I haven't seen snow like that in many, many years.

The last time I saw over 12 inches of snow around here was in 1980- so it's been awhile! Sorry your fun weekend got messed up, but at least you actually had snow accumulation- we just got a light dusting and then it was gone. (And yes- modern weather forecasters don't do the best job even with Super Quadruple Doppler radars.... we had that huge Noreaster storm here back in November and they didn't even realize how big a storm it was going to be until about 12 hours before it actually got here!)

I'm thinking a weatherman is the only job in which you can be wrong 365 days of the year yet retain your position and benefits....maybe its just me?????

I'd love some of your snow...it's cold here but no white stuff.

@Daffy - Apparently you can also work where I work. Though not in my job or department, but all of the directors can be wrong all the time and uses phrases like "that's not my job" and still keep their job, but I have to be flexible and do "other duties as assigned."
