Lesson #47 - You Don't Have To Be "Old" To Lose Your Hair

**Don't forget to enter my giveaway HERE...or click on the "Get Rewarded" button for other giveaway information!!**

I don't know when it started...oh wait, yes I do...it all began in the later stage of my 1st trimester. My hair has never been the best at staying attached to my head. Once the babe began a-growing, though, it just got worse! Let me show you in pictures. A few years ago, my hair looked like this:

Oh Carrie Underwood...how I envy thee (hair)...my hair used to be flowing and loverly - just like yours (be it natural or otherwise...I don't care - you still look fab girl!!) Alas, now my hair is falling out faster than it is growing! One pass with my fabulously wonderful round brush and out it comes. I swear to you, I have pulled out enough hair from that brush to keep a million Chinese Crested dogs warm in the winter. In case you have never heard of those...they aren't the cutest things in the world:

Ok, ok...maybe this little guy IS kinda cute...but still...almost NO hair!! Ok...maybe not a million of the little buggers, but it is a lot of hair. I don't like it either!! I want to be able to curl my long locks again. I want to dress up like Cinderella or Goldilocks for Halloween and not need a wig. I would love more than anything to style my hair like this:

(with or without very hot man...I mean, I am married to the hottest guy ALIVE - but I girl can fantasize!!)

...and not like this:

Don't get me wrong, Jessica Alba can rock the short hair...but it just don't look good on me. My face is a wee too large and my ears stick out just a little too far. Is there anyone out there in blog-topia who can help me with my hair-falling-out-issue?!?! Please say you can!!!

Talk to your doctor, you may be able to take vitamins or something to help! Hang in there!!!

Masala Chica said...

yeah - are you taking vitamins? also - its hard looking at celeb pictures and not also accounting for the fact that they all have some amount of fake hair in that mass of gorgeousness/curls that we see.

but dude what is up with that jessica alba hair? it ages her by about 10 years. that's just silly.

i am hopeful you can get your carrie u. hair back.

If you want to go the home remedy route, there's some great stuff that Arbonne carries that would work. It's proven to regrow hair, and is used by chemo patients quite a bit. (It's that good, I hear) My first reccomendation would be to get with your Dr. to find out why it's falling out in the first place. Chances are, it's hormones, and won't last long. :)

Aww, Hon. Sorry to hear about your hair.
I remember when I was pregnant it would fall out by the handfull. It stopped eventually, but was super freaky at the time.
I would check with your doc as well.
Good luck to you ((hugs))

Sorry I haven't been around in a bit; work has been a pain since the new year started. It's always like this in January.

There's a woman at work who was recently diagnosed with a hair condition that causes her hair to be brittle, thin, and fall out. I'm not sure the name of it, though. She saw her doctor and has some meds for it.

Or there's Rogaine for Women...maybe? I don't know. My brother's the one who was shafted with the "I'm 30 and have very little hair" genes. Mine's just going gray at 29.

LOL, for the third day this week, I posted directly after you on the SITS FB. Too funny, we must be on the same schedule!

I know some posters said talk to your doctor, but I'd say to start with your hairdresser. They see so many people with so many different issues, and they have access to the best NON-medicated products on the market. I'm sure there's something available that can at least thicken your hair up without a prescription.

By the way, just added your button to my home page!

I had this same thing happen/ing. My hair got pretty nice and thick during pregnancy and about 3 months after I had my daughter is started falling out and hasn't stopped yet (she's 17 months). If you find something that works, let me know!

I have no idea....talk to your doctor.

I have heard that prenatal vitamins help with hair and nail growth. They helped during my pregnancy, but I can't handle the taste knowing I'm not helping a fetus develop.

i feel your pain...after having 4 kids it's all the same...i have great hair until i have the baby...then it starts going down the drain in handfuls...that goes on for about 6 months after baby. ppl ask if i got a haircut...umm no it's called hairloss.....i'm now getting new growth and it's insane..i've got these horrible little hairs popping up everywhere...now i have small bangs. my mom said 'oh honey...those look great...when did you cut them?" ummm hello...why would i cut bangs 1" long?

I haven't had this issue...other than when I had the babies or surgery. Talk to your hairdresser and your doc and see what they can come up with.

I agree with Big Sis..prenatals really work for some people and I know people who take them all the time sans pregnancy. My hair is giant, I will share some with you?? :)

Have you had your thyroid checked? Sometimes pregnancy triggers a dormant thyroid issue. You may have other symptoms and not realize it. A simple blood test should show if everything is in working order or not.

I would go to the doctor, sweetie! It could be something really easy to fix.

And I LOVE Carrie's hair...omg...I'm so growing my hair out again, lol!

Oh no! Have you used the rockstar hair stuff from bedhead? It's awesome for making hair look thicker.

After reading this I realized that I seem to be losing more hair then normal...for instance I tend to have many tangles and when I comb through it there is so much hair that comes out with it. I have very thick hair to start with so I'm not missing it much but I think it has something to do with the pregnancy hormones.

How old is your baby? Mine stopped falling out about 6-9 months post partum. Do I dare tell you that after my second that a patch of it had the nerve to grow back in gray?!?!

Tiffany said...

ugh. don't get me started on the hair. this happened when my first child was about 4 months old, hair fell out at the temples. now, with my second, it's falling out at the temples and all along the hairling. i had BALD spots for goodness sake. it's finally starting to grow back, but really, i don't need help being self-conscious.

Ummm.... vitamins. I hope they will help.

I know my hair fell out like crazy after the babies but then it gradually started hanging in there again. Like some of the others, it might not be a bad idea to check it out though.

rogaine! nah, not yet. probably vitamins, but lets face it, childbirth and raising children will cause a lot worse stuff that this to happen to your body. just kidding(or not) you decide!

i have no ideas, sorry :(
i hope you can figure something out though!

The Princess of Sarcasm said...

I'm sorry...I should probably say something real supportive about you and your hair....but all I can think about is where can I get a pic of your hot husband? lol

Sorry...my prince has been out of town ALL WEEK! Just a little lonely. ;)

I don't think it has a lot to do with vitamins. We go through phases which the hair grows and the phases that we shed the hair we grew. When we're pregnant, we take prenatal vitamins and that would of course help our hair grow. But soon or later, all the hair we grew will be replaced - so, don't you worry! Your hair will be back to normal soon I'm sure!!! I had twice in my life that I thought I was going to lose all my hair - I honestly could've made a rag out of my fallen hair:)

Have you had your thyroid levels checked? If those are all whacked (and sometimes it tends to be after pregnancy), your hair falling out can be one of the symptoms.

If all's well with your thyroid, you could take prenatal vitamins. I hear those seem to help!

This is going to sound crazy but you should look into emu oil. I started using it for my crows feet, and it worked miracles, so I started getting all my skin and haircare stuff with emu oil in it and it heals everything and makes skinsoft and young, and my hair (which I bleach the s___ out of, is in awesome condition. Look into it. I know it sounds bizarre, but it's for real!!! The bottles aren't pretty, but it's inexpensive and amazing.

My hair started falling out 3 months post partum. My daughter is 10 months old and my hair is STILL falling out by the hand fulls! I can't believe that I'm not bald!
